Town of Bedford Considering Additional Power Bill Hikes
$5 Increase for Most Residents, Worse for Businesses
Bedford’s Town Council will consider yet another power bill increase tomorrow, according to an agenda published on the Town’s website.
Residents have seen rapid increases in bills through what the town calls “Power Cost Adjustments.” But as our readers know, there's more to the story than what you may see in the Bedford Bulletin.
The town uses its electric utility as a cash cow to pay for town services, salaries for town employees, and other expenses. So when the prices go up for power, it’s effectively a tax increase.
The biggest problem with this doesn't involve the cost of power, rather, the fact that a significant portion of ratepayers do not reside in town, and thus do not experience the benefits of those services.
