Preview: Terrapin Earth Festival at Sedalia Center This Weekend
Music, workshops, mushrooms, craft beer & camping
The Sedalia Center for the Arts turned out a record crowd in March for its annual Celtic Festival. This weekend, the Center will host an interactive gathering with live music, workshops, foraging, and camping on site, with another big crowd expected.
Bedford-grown psych-rock band Cleophus James returns home from Richmond for the occasion. The group is a frequent patio addition to breweries and venues there.
The Judy Chops, Bigfood County, and the Coleman Brothers Band will also be performing.
Local mushroom enthusiast Michael Okuley is set to lead a workshop on foraging - just in time, too, as the morels are popping all over Bedford. Several other workshops will be available for attendees, including classes on permaculture, composting, tai chi, marijuana, and plant walks.
As always, it will be a wonderful gathering in the beautiful mountains of Bedford County.

WDBJ7: Sedalia Center Terrapin Festival
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - This is the 2nd year of the Terrapin Mountain Earth Festival, and Here @ Home welcomes one of the many workshop presenters, Michael Okuley, (aka the Mindful Mushroomer) to talk about this year’s festival.
Last year was very well attended, and organizers have even more workshops and things to experience this year.
Camping, music, education workshops and more are planned. This family-friendly event has something for everyone, including live music Friday and Saturday, and workshops all day Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
Okuley talks to us about his workshop entitled “What is this…Can I eat it?” This workshop will discuss the most highly prized and sought-after species of wild edible mushrooms that are native to Virginia and the Appalachian Mountains.
