Dunkin' Donuts Coming to Bedford; Reversion Vote May Fail as Opposition Grows
Store will occupy building on 460
We broke news earlier this week about Dunkin Donuts coming to our area, and the response online has been overwhelmingly positive. Don’t miss the comment section.
Local doctors and insulin companies, rejoice.
In the Town of Bedford this week, rumors are circulating the upcoming reversion vote - already once delayed - is in jeopardy of failing. As a large coalition opposing reversion metastasizes by the day, NO ANNEXATION signs pop up on every corner and councilmembers are weighing the costs of executing the final phase of the ten-year-old reversion agreement.
The politics of the town are simple to decipher: it’s a 60-40 liberal to conservative lean; 320-450 votes can tip the scales and elect conservative-minded candidates like current members CG Stanley, Stacey Hailey, and Bruce Hartwick.
Reversion brings in between 700-900 new voters who will be eligible to both run and vote in November’s elections, where all seven members will be on the ballot.
And they will be looking hard for new faces as the controversies mount: a costly and failed attempt to build a $12M police station, closed door attempts to sell reservoir buffer lands to the Mayor’s friends; major electric rate hikes; a wasteful workforce development center and tax increases - and that’s just the last five months.
Good luck to anyone who thinks that’s a winning message for re-election in a town of humble, modest people - many of whom live on a fixed income, are retired, or moved here specifically to get away from that type of governance.
